12v 3528 LED Strip
12V 3528 flexible LED strips are the go-to choice for indoor accent lighting projects where you want a soft, even glow without the intensity of higher-powered strip formats. Each strip features 3528 SMD chips (3.5×2.8mm single-die LEDs) mounted at a density of 60 LEDs per meter on a flexible PCB with 3M adhesive backing. The result is a thin, lightweight strip that peels and sticks to virtually any clean, flat surface — cabinet undersides, shelf edges, display case interiors, crown molding ledges, TV backsides, and closet headers — providing smooth, continuous illumination with minimal installation effort.
At 60 LEDs per meter, the individual LED dots are spaced just 16.7mm apart, close enough to blend into a seamless line of light at normal viewing distances (beyond about 30cm). Each 3528 chip produces roughly 5–7 lumens, yielding approximately 300–420 lumens per meter of strip — a moderate, comfortable light level that enhances visibility without creating the harsh brightness associated with task lighting fixtures. Power consumption is approximately 4.8W per meter (24W per full 5-meter reel), making 3528 strips highly energy-efficient. A 30W 12V DC power supply handles a full 5-meter reel with comfortable headroom.
These strips are non-waterproof — the LEDs and copper traces are exposed on the flexible PCB surface. This makes them thinner, more flexible, and easier to fit into tight channels than their waterproof counterparts, but they should only be used in dry indoor environments: under kitchen cabinets (away from sinks), inside display cases and trophy cases, behind televisions for bias lighting, along closet shelves, inside wardrobes, under bed frames, along desk edges, and inside entertainment centers. If you need moisture protection for bathrooms, outdoor installations, kitchens near water, boats, or RVs, choose the waterproof 3528 strip instead — same chip density, same brightness, with an added IP65 silicone coating.
Every 3528 strip can be cut to length at clearly marked cut lines every 3 LEDs (every 5cm or approximately 2 inches). This fine cut increment gives you precise length control — measure your installation surface, round to the nearest 5cm, and cut. Each cut segment is independently functional: connect it to 12V DC and it lights up immediately. To rejoin segments, make 90-degree turns, or extend a run, use 2-pin solderless strip connectors that clip onto the exposed copper pads without any soldering. Browse our wire, switches, and connectors category for compatible strip connectors, DC barrel jacks, extension wires, and inline switches.
Color temperature matters for the look and feel of your installation. Warm white (approximately 3000–3500K) produces a soft, yellowish glow similar to incandescent bulbs — ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, restaurants, wine bars, and anywhere you want a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Cool white (approximately 5500–6500K) produces a crisp, slightly blue-tinted white that works well for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, workshops, and display cases showcasing white or silver merchandise. We also stock 3528 strips in single colors including red, green, blue, and yellow for decorative accent applications — holiday lighting, themed rooms, bar and nightclub builds, and gaming setups.
For the best long-term installation, clean the mounting surface with isopropyl alcohol before applying the 3M adhesive backing. Aluminum LED channel extrusions are strongly recommended for professional installations: the strip sits inside the channel (which doubles as a heat sink), and a frosted snap-on diffuser cover transforms the individual LED dots into a smooth, continuous line of light. For runs longer than 3 meters from a single power feed, inject power from both ends or from a midpoint to prevent voltage drop — the LEDs at the far end of a long single-end-fed run will appear noticeably dimmer. Use 18–20 AWG wire for the supply leads between the power supply and the strip to minimize additional voltage loss.
If you need only a short section rather than a full 5-meter reel, check our LED strips by the section category, where you can purchase pre-cut lengths with no waste. For brighter output or RGB color-mixing capability, step up to our 5050 LED strips, which use a larger three-die chip producing 2–3 times the light per LED. Whether you choose 3528 or 5050, the installation process is the same: peel, stick, connect to 12V, and enjoy.
