0603 / 0606 SMD LEDs - Slow Flashing - 1.5Hz
0603 SMD slow-flashing LEDs pack a complete 1Hz self-flashing circuit into an incredibly tiny surface-mount package measuring just 1.6mm × 0.8mm × 0.6mm — smaller than a grain of rice. The built-in IC blinks the LED once per second with no external timer, no microcontroller, and no code. Just solder to a PCB pad, add a current-limiting resistor, and apply DC power. The 0603 is the smallest animated LED we stock, designed for high-density PCB layouts, ultra-miniature model railroad custom boards, advanced wearable electronics, and any application where absolute minimum footprint is the primary design constraint.
High-density PCB and production applications: The 0603 package is the standard SMD size for space-constrained PCB designs. Electronics engineers use 0603 flashing LEDs for power-present indicators on dense IoT modules, sensor nodes, and wireless communication boards where larger packages would not fit the layout. The self-flashing feature saves a microcontroller GPIO pin and eliminates the need for software blink routines, which is valuable on pin-limited microcontrollers like ATtiny series and small-package STM32 variants. The 0603 footprint is compatible with standard automated pick-and-place and reflow soldering processes.
Ultra-miniature model railroad builds: The most advanced N scale and Z scale model railroaders who fabricate custom PCBs use 0603 SMD flashing LEDs for the absolute smallest animated lighting installations. An 0603 flashing LED on a custom PCB inside an N scale locomotive nose provides a blinking headlight, ditch light, or classification light without any external controller. N scale signal masts with custom PCBs use 0603 flashing LEDs behind fiber-optic strands for scale-accurate signal aspects. The 0603 package is so small that it can be mounted inside the thinnest N scale structure walls.
Wearable tech and micro electronics: Smart textile designers, flexible PCB builders, and electronic badge makers use 0603 flashing LEDs for the smallest possible blinking indicator on wearable circuits. The 0.6mm profile height means the LED lies virtually flat on a flexible substrate. Electronic jewelry makers solder 0603 flashing LEDs onto tiny PCBs embedded in pendant and earring settings. Conference badge builders (DEF CON, Supercon, Hackaday) use 0603 flashing LEDs for high-density LED arrays on badge PCBs where through-hole components are impractical.
Available colors and specifications: We stock 0603 SMD slow-flash LEDs in red, amber, green, blue, cool white, and warm white. Forward voltage: red/amber ≈ 2.0–2.2V; blue/green/white ≈ 3.0–3.2V. Maximum current: 20mA. Package: 1.6mm × 0.8mm × 0.6mm. Wide viewing angle (~120–160°). A current-limiting resistor is required (0402 SMD resistor is the natural companion). For DCC/AC, add a bridge rectifier — see the AC/DCC wiring guide.
0603 vs. 0807 SMD animated LEDs: The 0603 (1.6mm × 0.8mm) is approximately half the footprint of the 0807 (2.0mm × 1.8mm). The 0603 is harder to hand-solder and requires steadier hands and better magnification. If hand-soldering accessibility matters more than absolute minimum size, the 0807 is the better choice. For automated assembly or maximum density, the 0603 is optimal.
