3mm Round Top Extra Fast Flashing 6Hz LED
3mm extra-fast flashing LEDs (6Hz) strobe at six flashes per second in the compact T-1 through-hole package. At this rate, individual flashes blur together into a rapid, staccato pulse that conveys maximum visual urgency — the hallmark of emergency vehicle light bars, alarm strobes, and attention-critical warning systems. The built-in integrated circuit (IC) handles all timing automatically with no external components beyond a current-limiting resistor. The 3mm form factor makes this the LED of choice for emergency strobe effects on HO and N scale model vehicles, compact alarm panels, miniature wargaming terrain with blinking klaxon towers, and any small-scale application that demands the aggressive intensity of a rapid strobe.
HO and N scale emergency vehicle models: Police car, fire truck, and ambulance models in HO scale (1:87) need a 3mm LED body to fit inside scale-appropriate light bar housings. The 6Hz strobe rate closely approximates the rapid flash cadence of real emergency light bars, producing a convincing effect when viewed at modeling distances. Red and blue 3mm 6Hz LEDs create the classic police strobe pattern. Red and amber create fire apparatus effects. White 3mm 6Hz LEDs simulate intersection-clearing wig-wag headlights on emergency vehicles. For N scale (1:160), the 3mm LED is still usable in larger structures and vehicles, though 1.8mm 6Hz LEDs provide better scale accuracy for the smallest vehicles.
Arcade restoration, alarm panels, and industrial indicators: Pinball machine restorers and arcade cabinet builders wire 3mm 6Hz LEDs behind small playfield inserts, coin-slot indicators, and button bezels where the 5mm body would not fit. The rapid strobe creates the visual excitement of classic attract modes and bonus sequences. DIY alarm panel builders use red 3mm 6Hz LEDs as zone-violation strobe indicators in compact home security systems. Industrial and workshop builders mount amber 3mm 6Hz LEDs on equipment status panels as critical fault indicators visible at a glance across a shop floor. Amateur radio operators use red 3mm 6Hz LEDs as high-SWR alarm strobes on compact portable rigs where panel space is limited.
Miniature wargaming and prop building: Warhammer 40K terrain builders wire 3mm 6Hz LEDs into bunker alarm klaxons, automated turret mounts, and defense line warning towers. The rapid strobe at the 28mm gaming scale creates a dramatic “red alert” effect that enhances tabletop immersion during gameplay. Haunted house prop builders use 3mm 6Hz LEDs in tight-space installations: inside small skull eye sockets, behind narrow potion bottle slots, and within compact animatronic housings where a 5mm LED would not physically fit. The 6Hz rate gives these props an agitated, alarming energy that slower flash rates cannot match.
Available colors and specifications: We stock 3mm 6Hz extra-fast flash LEDs in red, orange, amber, yellow, green, blue, cool white, and warm white. Water-clear lens, 15–30° viewing angle. Forward voltage: red/orange/yellow/amber ≈ 2.0–2.2V; blue/green/white ≈ 3.0–3.2V. Maximum current: 20mA. A series current-limiting resistor is mandatory. Use our LED resistor calculator for the correct value. For DCC or AC power, add a bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitor — see the AC/DCC wiring guide. New to LEDs? Pre-wired LEDs are the easiest starting point.
6Hz vs. other 3mm flash rates: The 6Hz rate is the fastest we stock — three times faster than 3mm 2Hz fast flash and six times faster than 3mm 1Hz slow flash. At six flashes per second, individual blinks begin merging into a continuous flicker in peripheral vision, producing the strobe urgency associated with emergency vehicles and alarm systems. Choose 1Hz for calm indicators and railroad crossings. Choose 2Hz for moderate attention-getting. Choose 6Hz for maximum alarm effect. For a subtle ambient pulse, use 3mm 0.25Hz extra-slow. For organic fire effects, use 3mm flickering candle.
