Description / 1 Watt High Power Star LED - Cool / Clear White
The 1 Watt Star Cool White High Power LED delivers significantly more output than standard 20mA indicator LEDs — built for applications where brightness matters: flashlight builds, grow lights, reef aquarium fixtures, stage lighting, and DIY fishing lights.
Cool white (~6500K) provides maximum perceived brightness — the standard for flashlight builds where raw lumen output is the priority.
| Type | 1 Watt Star |
| Forward Voltage | 3.2-3.6v |
| Brightness | 100 lm (Lumens) |
| Viewing Angle | 140 Degrees |
| Drive Current | 350mA |
| Power | 1 Watt |
Mounting: Mounted on a 20mm aluminum star PCB for heatsinking. Solder or thermal-adhesive to an aluminum heatsink — active cooling (fan) recommended above 1W continuous.
Common applications
- Primary: DIY flashlight builds (cool white for maximum lumens — BudgetLightForum, r/flashlight), DIY bicycle headlights (MTBR forums), photography/video panel builds (daylight channel), DIY projector builds
- DIY flashlight modification: Replace or upgrade the emitter in Convoy S2+, Emisar D4V2, Noctigon, Maglite, and P60 drop-in hosts. The flashlight modding community (BudgetLightForum, CandlePowerForums, r/flashlight) is the largest buyer of individual high-power star LEDs.
- Stage and theatrical lighting: Build RGBW par cans and spot fixtures with individually driven color channels. DMX-controllable with constant-current drivers.
- Machine vision and inspection: High-power illumination for camera inspection systems, UV fluorescence inspection, and industrial quality control.
Power and thermal management
These LEDs come pre-mounted on a 20mm aluminum star PCB that acts as a heatsink. For most applications the star PCB provides sufficient thermal management on its own — no additional heatsink is required for typical duty cycles. For continuous high-duty-cycle applications (e.g. grow light arrays running 12+ hours), mounting the star to an aluminum surface improves heat dissipation. Use a constant-current LED driver (Meanwell LDD series, BuckPuck) rather than a simple resistor — constant-current drivers maintain consistent brightness and prevent thermal runaway.
Pair with
- Power supplies — constant-current LED drivers (Meanwell LDD recommended)
- TIR optics / reflectors — focus or spread the beam for your application (60° for flood, 15° for throw)
