Description / PLCC-6 SMD Yellow / Gold - Ultra Bright 5050 LED

The 5050 (PLCC-6) Yellow SMD LED packs three chips into one 5.0 × 5.0mm six-pad footprint — this is the same chip used in 5050 LED strip lights. Replacement chips for damaged LED strips, or build your own high-output PCB arrays. Yellow is the classic turn signal and caution indicator color — matches automotive and vintage equipment lighting closely.

Package5050 — SMD surface mount
Forward Voltage1.9-2.1v for each diode
Brightness1600mcd
Viewing Angle100-120 Degrees
LensClear
Drive Current20mA typical

5050 vs WS2812B: Standard 5050 LEDs are non-addressable — all three chips in one package are controlled together. If you need individually addressable LEDs (like NeoPixels), you need WS2812B specifically. Standard 5050s are for constant-color or manually PWM-controlled applications.

Common uses:

  • LED strip repair — direct component-level replacement for dead LEDs in 5050-based strip lights. Desolder the failed chip, solder in the replacement. Cheaper than replacing the entire strip
  • Mechanical keyboard RGB underglow — some custom keyboard PCBs use 5050 RGB for per-key and underglow lighting (similar to WS2812B but non-addressable)
  • Aquarium and reef lighting DIY — three-chip package for high-output reef and planted tank fixture builds
  • PC case RGB modding — custom interior lighting boards with individually controlled 5050 RGB chips

DC power recommended: LEDs are designed for DC. Running on AC will cause flickering and reduce lifespan. If you're using a low-voltage AC source — such as a model railroad transformer output or DCC track voltage — convert it to DC first with a bridge rectifier.

Sold individually (1 LED per quantity ordered).
