1N5819 Schottky Power Diode Rectifier – 40v 1A .6Vf

This is a 1N5819 Schottky diode and also known as a hot carrier diode or a medium power schottky rectifying diode. The 1N5819 schottky is quite a popular diode in that family of diodes. Some of the main benefits of the schottky diodes is that they have a low forward voltage, they switch very fast, and are efficient. There are particular circuits where a schottky may not be the best option, but may also be the only option available to get the job done. We have found them useful in many situations. A diode, if you are unfamiliar will typically only allow current to flow in one direction. Of course, there are exceptions to this as well. This particular diode has been used often in driving small electric motors. The 1N5819 will allow up to 1A of current to flow through it and will block up to 40v with a forward voltage of 0.6V, which makes it a very versatile dode.

The 1N5819 diode does have polarity. The line indicates the cathode or negative side and unmarked side is the anode or positive side. Current will flow freely through the diode from the positive through the negative side (marked with a line).

The forward voltage is the voltage drop across the diode if the voltage at the anode is more positive than the voltage at the cathode (if you connect + to the anode). You can't go wrong with the 1N5819 schottky diodes.
