Description / MAX7219 LED Driver IC — Drives Up to 64 LEDs via SPI, DIP-24
MAX7219CNG — LED driver IC that multiplexes up to 64 LEDs (8 digits x 8 segments) using SPI interface. Only 3 pins needed from a microcontroller: DIN, CLK, and LOAD/CS.
Built-in constant-current driver eliminates the need for individual current-limiting resistors — a single RSET resistor sets the drive current for all outputs. Daisy-chain multiple MAX7219 chips for 128+ LEDs.
Common uses: LED matrices, 7-segment displays, large LED arrays for model railroad layouts, holiday light controllers, and any project needing many individually controlled LEDs from minimal GPIO pins.
