CD4017BE — CMOS decade counter/divider with 10 decoded outputs. Each clock pulse advances the active output one step (Q0 through Q9), creating a sequential walking pattern.
Pair with a 555 timer for the clock signal to build LED chasers, Knight Rider scanners, sequential turn signals, and running light displays. The 555 sets the speed, the CD4017 handles the sequencing — no microcontroller needed.
Common uses: LED chaser/scanner circuits, sequential lighting effects, decade counting, frequency division, and model railroad signal sequencing.
